Cross Country Upstate-style

It’s getting to be late February and if you’re not into a bit of the outdoors you’re in deep cabin fever mode. Let me toss a few peanuts out on the ledge to drag you back in.Lapland Lake Trail

Today was an upstate wintery day with snow squalls, 20 to 30 degree weather depending on high you were on the mountains. We decided to pack a lunch and head out to Lapland Lake X-Country Ski area just north of Northville and about 10 miles up the hills on Benson Road off of State Rte 30. Rte 30 runs around the great Sacandaga Reservoir west side.

The trails were packed powder and nicely groomed for tracking or skating along. We hit the beginner’s area to get the kids up on skis and then traversed some of the beginner trails. After a brief stopover at the lodge we took the Lake trail loop and burnt the kids out.

The cost of skiing beautiful mountain trails with good food at the lodge were in line and everyone was upstate friendly! There are some reindeer nearby at the Lake Loop so stop, get some pics and have a trailside snack in the great upstate Adirondacks.
