Upstate Pizza

You've heard that you can only get good great pizza in New York City, Brooklyn especially, and I've got to tell you it's hard to beat a thin slice of pie with the Brooklyn touch. Since it's a two hour hell ride into the "city", we settle for an upstate touch that has it's own following. "Imported Hands" is a catch phrase you see everywhere but the "imported hands" didn't stop at Ellis Island or Brooklyn, they spread out over all of New York and brought a slice of downstate with them. My favorite for over the years has been Johnnie DeMarco Pizzeria on Altamont Avenue in Rotterdam. There isn't anyone in the Schenectady area that hasn't been there. Old world style and they have a nice eat-in locale also. Ruggerio's Pizza is on Carman Road in Guilderland and is always busy on Friday thru Sunday. Forget the chains unless you're from another planet, they just don't have that original recipe taste that makes each pizzeria it's own flavor. If you like to sit in a small cozy place visit Chef's Take Out on Carman Road in Guilderland, great food, great prices. Not a lot of hyperlinks to theses places because they're local hangouts and word of mouth works better than the 'web. Next time, where to get real meat!
